Tire collection event set for Saturday in Waitsburg

WAITSBURG -- A free tire collection event Saturday will give city and county residents a chance to dispose of old tires.

The collection event will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Waitsburg Fairgrounds. Participants will be asked to provide proof of residency by showing a valid driver's license or property tax statement with a Walla Walla County address

Residents will be able to dispose of up to 10 regular-sized car, light truck, or motorcycle tires per household. No tractor, large truck, tires over 36 inches, or tires on rims or axles will be accepted.

No tires will be accepted from businesses or other non-residential sources. Participants should also make sure their load is secured before getting out on public roadways to avoid possible accidents caused by flying debris.

The collection is being paid for by a grant from the Washington state Department of Ecology's Waste Tire Removal Account.
