Waitsburg-Prescott defeats Dayton 12-1

PRESCOTT - Waitsburg-Prescott improved its District 9 2B soccer record to 3-0 with a 12-1 victory over Dayton here Tuesday.

Francisco Gonzalez scored five goals in W-P's victory, and Lino Diaz had two scores.

Jesse Albarran, Ernesto Valdoninos, Kevin Ortego, Luis Torres and Aldair Escalante each put a ball in the net for W-P.

"We got up early and got subs in the game," W-P assistant coach Jay Potts said. "Francisco had a great game. He's a senior leader for us. He stayed in the game in the second half because of his leadership. He scored four of his goals in the first half, and he did nothing but pass in the second half. That was good to see."

Dayton's goal came in the 78th minute, when the Bulldogs got around the W-P defense and put the ball into the net.

"That wasn't going to get stopped by anybody," Potts said of Dayton's goal.

W-P now 10-1-2 overall and 3-0 in league, heads to Riverside Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday, and finishes up the regular season Monday at Walla Walla Valley Academy. The postseason begins Nov. 2, with a game yet-to-be-determined at Prescott.
