WW man arrested in luring attempt

Police say Fortino V. Garcia tried to get a teenager into his pickup Saturday.

WALLA WALLA -- A Walla Walla man has been arrested for allegedly trying to lure a girl into his vehicle Saturday.

In a release, city police Detective Matt Wood said police were called at 1:45 p.m. to the alley behind a gas station at 1916 E. Isaacs Ave. for a report of a man trying to get a 15-year-old girl into his pickup truck.

Witnesses told police that the suspect, identified as Fortino V. Garcia, 44, of 2815 E. Melrose St., passed the girl while she was walking in the alley behind the building. He allegedly ordered the girl into the truck and she refused.

When Garcia exited the truck, the girl walked away and called her father, who was working in the immediate area. As officers arrived in the area, the victim pointed out Garcia and his truck and he was arrested.

Garcia was subsequently booked into Walla Walla County Jail for investigation of luring, Wood said. He is scheduled for arraignment at 3 p.m. on Oct. 31, according to documents filed in Walla Walla County Superior Court.
