WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla High School Choral Department will present a fall concert at 7 p.m. Oct. 27 in the high school auditorium at 800 Abbott Road.
A program of "Music of the Civil War Era" will be featured, including African-American spirituals, folk songs and songs of war and remembrance.
Compositions include Stephen Foster's "Nelly Bly," the "Battle Hymn of the Republic," "Ride On, King Jesus," "Johnny Has Gone for a Soldier," "Tenting on the Old Campground," "Shenandoah," "Ride the Chariot," "Goober Peas," and "The Drinking Gourd."
Violinist Emily Schueller will be featured on "The Ashokan Farewell."
Performers will be the Concert Choir, Chansons, Chamber Singers, Treble Ensemble and WaHi's newest ensemble, Belles Voix, which is French for "beautiful voices." This group is comprised of 16 junior and senior girls.
Singers from the community will also be on the program. The choirs are under the direction of Norbert Rossi and accompanied by Melissa Cadieux.
