Two downtown Walla Walla businesses that share a building will close their doors today as the owners retire.
Jill's Uniforms & More and The Medicine Shoppe, 25 S. Colville St., will close, but some of the services they've offered over their years in business will continue.
The uniform business has been sold to Graphic Apparel, 860 N.E. Rose St., said Jill Becker, who for 35 years fit prostheses and sold uniforms and maternity clothes. At Graphic Apparel, owner Lynette Gordon will take over the inventory and continue to offer Cherokee and Koi brands, as well as other items, Becker said. Those items will be ready for purchase by Monday.
Another business, Green & Jackson, 1365 Dalles Military Road, has purchased the prostheses side of the business. Becker will continue to perform fittings there until a new fitter becomes certified, she said.
Becker's husband, pharmacist Ron Becker, also is retiring. The Medicine Shoppe has been part of the community since 1988 when it was converted from an independent pharmacy established in 1973. About five years ago the business underwent an extensive remodel that included the installation of a drive-through window and construction of a compounding room, a lab where prescribed drugs no longer commercially available could be mixed.
With the closure of The Medicine Shoppe, all prescription accounts have been transferred to Walgreens, 633 W. Tietan St.
