WAITSBURG - Waitsburg-Prescott jumped out to a large lead in the first two sets of a three-set sweep of Tri-Cities Prep Thursday, but struggled to put the Jaguars down until the third, scoring 27-25, 28-26 and 25-15, respectively.
W-P jumped out to 10-point leads in both of the first two sets before T-C Prep came back to narrow the margin.
"When it got to point 16 (in the first two matches) we stopped passing well and we just didn't play well, and it got a lot closer," W-P coach Angie Potts said. "Luckily, we pulled it out. The third game was definitely how all three of them should have been.
"It's frustrating, especially when they start off so strong and then we take it for granted and let it fall apart," she said. "You have to give (T-C) Prep some credit but it would have been nice to finish."
Ronnie Hulce had another banner day for W-P, scoring 11 kills, 18 assists and five aces in the win. Kayla Huxoll had 17 assists, Amanda Cook had 14 digs, Jennifer Niachols five aces, Krystal Harris had five kills and seven digs, and Sarah Mascall had five kills.
W-P moves to 6-5 and hosts Liberty Christian Tuesday in its final match of the season.
