Prescott voters asked to approve levy for pool, park

PRESCOTT _ The Prescott Joint Parks & Recreation District is seeking a one-year, $110,000 maintenance and operation levy to fund the Prescott pool and park in 2012. The levy measure will be on the Nov. 8 ballot.

Estimated cost per $1,000 assessed valuation is 48 cents.

A supermajority of 60 percent or more approving the levy is required for passage.

The pool, which did not open in 2010 due to failure to pass a levy, was open for 72 days during the 2011 season, serving an average of 69 swimmers per day, according to Recreation District Chair Patsy Adams-Warnock.

Operating expenses for 2011 remain on budget and there were no unexpected breakdowns at the pool facility, which is over 50 years old, Adams-Warnock said.

A new volunteer program that provided an opportunity for people to earn credit for swim passes in 2011 allowed the district to save money and allowed swimmers to reduce their cost. More than 50 volunteers helped with pool and park preparation, Adams-Warnock said.
