PENDLETON - Mac-Hi runners Josie Lonai and Lucas Simpson posted top-five finishes in their respective 5,000 meter races here Friday during the Wildhorse Invitational cross country meet.
Lonai placed fourth among 68 contestants in the girls race in 20 minutes, 45.63 seconds while Simpson took fifth in a boys field of 115 with a mark of 17:21.81.
Two more local runners broke into the top 20. Mac-Hi's Jesus Saldana was 16th on the boys side in 18:06.53 and Jessica Arnzen of Walla Walla Valley Academy took 18th in the girls race with a time of 22:16.62.
Both WWVA and Mac-Hi combined to place four more girls in the top 50. WWVA's McKenzie Cosaert finished 33rd in 23:43.62, Kristi Childers of Mac-Hi was 35th in 23:57.58, Christine Lomeland of WWVA crossed the finish line in 25:10.50 - good for 44th - and Mac-Hi's Jackie Martinez ended up 47th in 25:22.60.
Mac-Hi's Andrew Kain was the only other local boy to reach the top 50. His mark of 19:51.78 was good for 50th.
