POMEROY - Pomeroy continued its offensive juggernaut with a 68-28 victory over visiting Liberty Christian here Friday night.

Tory Knebel racked up 268 yards rushing on 26 carries, and Pirate quarterback Ryan Smith 205 yards on 22 runs, as Pomeroy piled up 564 yards on the ground.

"We traded touchdowns in the beginning," Pirates coach Sanford Bates said, "but then we got a turnover on their next possession and scored several times."

Pomeroy opened scoring with Knebel's 45-yard touchdown run, but the Patriots answered on Mike Olson's 49-yard toss to Tyler Morris to even it at 8-all.

The Pirates would have none of it, with Austin Reisdorph capitalizing on Liberty Christian's turnover to score from 18 yards out, Knebel had a 44-yard score, and Smith took it in from the 8 as Pomeroy up a 28-8 second-quarter lead.

Smith had TD runs of three and 55 yards and Reisdorph scored from the 5 as Pomeroy opened a 52-22 halftime lead.

"After their (Liberty Christian's) first drive of the second half (an eight-yard TD pass from Olson to Tate Richards), we shut them down defensively," Bates said. "Our offensive line allowed us to run the ball as we like to."

Smith's runs from the 5 and 9 rounded out scoring on the night.

"They're a good ballclub," Bates said of the Patriots. "They hung around and scored periodically to keep us on our toes."

Bates credited the Pirates defense with the four Liberty Christian turnovers on the night.

"Those four turnovers are a big improvement for us," he said. "Our kids are improving each week. We're doing what we need to do well, and the score showed that."

Pomeroy, now 3-1 in league and 6-1 overall, is in second place in the Southeast 1B-8, tied with Colton behind undefeated Touchet. The Pirates travel to play the Indians at 3 p.m. Friday.

"I expect it to be a good, close game," Bates said of the upcoming matchup. "Touchet has been able to score, as well. They took care of Gar-Pal (the Indians beat Garfield-Palouse, 76-36, Friday night). It should be a good game."
