CenturyLink services knocked out in region

A contractor damaged fiber optic cable outside Pasco, officials said.

WALLA WALLA -- Long distance and Internet service was knocked out this morning for about 20,000 CenturyLink customers from Pasco to the Walla Walla Valley.
A contractor plowing cable about 13 miles south of Pasco reportedly cut CenturyLink fiber, the company said in a press release this afternoon. The cut affected customers in Walla Walla, Waitsburg, Dayton, Pomeroy and Milton-Freewater.
Technicians and crews are onsite, investigating the damage and working to repair the connections, the company said.
The initial concern was restoring 911 and phone services. All 911 services have been re-routed to backup sites, CenturyLink officials said.
The company said it will provide updates on the situation and services as soon as more information is available.
CenturyLink provides broadband, voice and wireless services to residents and businesses across the country.
