LETTERS TO THE EDITOR - Simply following the law not impressive

Recent letters to the editor describing Mr. Fredrickson's "impressive" record of accomplishments are very misleading at best and should be exposed with a bit of truth.

A writer stated "the Port's tax-levy rate has declined during Commissioner Fredrickson's term from $0.44 per $1,000 to $0.375 per $1.000." This was designed to give the impression that Mr. Frederickson actually accomplished something impressive, such as lowering taxes. He did not.

The truth is that 94 percent of the drop in the levy rate can be attributed to the Washington state Legislature placing a cap of 1 percent per year on tax increases that applies to all Port districts across the state. The Port was only doing what was required by state law.

Trying to mislead the public regarding ones "accomplishments" is not impressive to me.

The truth always has a way of getting out.
