WALLA WALLA -- About 20,000 CenturyLink customers in the Walla Walla Valley and Pasco lost Internet, 911 and long-distance service this morning in a virtual replay of a failure Tuesday, officials said.
A contractor cut CenturyLink fiber south of Pasco, disconnecting services to customers, said Kerry Zimmer, CenturyLink spokeswoman.
She said the call about the problem came around 8 a.m. The location of the cut about 13 miles south of Pasco was near the spot the fiber was cut Tuesday by a contracting crew working in the area, Zimmer said.
All 911 services have been re-routed to backup sites.
"We take great pains to make sure that we handle these things quickly," Zimmer said.
The failure also affects customers in Pasco, Walla Walla, Waitsburg, Dayton, Pomeroy and Milton-Freewater.
An estimated time for restoration was not known this morning. Zimmer said CenturyLink technicians and crews were onsite investigation the damage and working to repair all fiber connections.
