ST. JOHN - Pomeroy handed St. John-Endicott a five-set Southeast 1B volleyball loss here Tuesday, 18-25, 25-22, 23-25, 25-21, 15-8.
The victory puts the Pirates at 8-5 in SE1B play, 14-8 overall, with a lone league match remaining against Colton at 6 p.m. Thursday in Pomeroy. A Pomeroy victory in that match would leave the Pirates with the third seed to the District tournament. A Pomeroy loss leaves the Pirates tied with St. John-Endicott in third, but the Pirates lost the coin toss with the Eagles and would take the fourth seed to District.
McKenzie Monahan had 12 kills and five aces Tuesday against the Eagles, Delaney Monahan at eight kills and seven blocks, Haylee Koller recorded 31 assists, McKenzie Uto came up with 16 digs, and Savannah Ruark had five blocks and 13 additional touch blocks.
"It was a roller-coaster ride," Pomeroy coach Bruce Crossfield said. "It seemed like we were down in sets most of the night - we were always trying to catch up. But our girls kept plugging away and working at it. Eventually, we got some momentum and got it done."
