WALLA WALLA -- A masked man absconded with an undisclosed amount of cash after robbing the Taj Food Mart on Morton Street early this morning, police said.
A witness saw the man flee the scene on a bicycle, heading toward Second Avenue, according to Detective Sgt. Matt Wood of the Walla Walla Police Department.
"It's a possiblity he left (the bike) there to get away," Wood said.
City police, along with Walla Walla County Sheriff's Office deputies, responded to the robbery report at 7:30 a.m.
Wood said the convenience store at 5 W. Morton was open when the man, wearing a hooded coat and a bandanna across his face, entered the store. There were no customers in the store at the time of the robbery.
"A weapon was implied," Wood said. "He kept his hand in his coat pocket."
Witnesses described the man as about 6 foot 2, Caucasian and in his 20s. He was wearing a navy blue, hooded jacket. Wood encouraged anyone with information about the robbery to call police at 527-1960 or 527-4434.
