WALLA WALLA -- The Whitman Mission National Historic Site staff and Whitman College astronomy students will host a star party, 6 p.m. Nov. 5 at the Mission, 328 Whitman Mission Road.
The party will begin with a 30-minute presentation entitled, "Astronomy Through Your Own Eyes," which will focus on what can be seen in the autumn sky.
After the presentation, the group will head outside to search for constellations and look through telescopes.
If it is cloudy, astronomy club members will give an inside workshop on how to set-up and use small telescopes.
Participants may bring their own telescopes or binoculars.
The grounds at the Whitman Mission customarily close at dark, but park hours have been extended for this special free event.
The Whitman Mission is located seven miles west of Walla Walla off U.S. Highway 12. The Visitor Center is open seven days a week, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Visitor information may be obtained anytime by calling 509-529-2761 or by visiting the park Website at www.nps.gov/whmi/.
