Members of the Touchet School Board are Sandra Bradley, Robert Schaeffer, Mandy Thompson, Michael McCubbins and Darren Goble. With McCubbins absent Thursday the board:

  • BUDGET: Discussed budget challenges presented by federal cuts and Gov. Christine Gregoire's proposed budget cuts. Federal cuts include 1.5 percent from Title I, Title II and Career and Technical Education. Among reductions proposed by Gregoire to help make up a projected state budget shortfall of $1.3 billion are reducing state levy equalization payments to schools by 50 percent, a savings of $150 million, and increasing class size by two students in grades 4 through 12, saving $137 million.
  • PERSONNEL: Approved change in employee status for Keylee Gaffrey. Also consider Gary Dorman's contract to reflect BA + 90 credits, and made an adjustment in counselor Tex Prewitt's contract. Consider approving the following coaching assignments: Mimalene Jaggar, middle school assistant volleyball; Chris Long, middle school boys basketball; April Miller, middle school girls basketball; Mike Giusti, high school girls basketball; Tim McKeown, high school boys basketball, and Malissa McKeown, high school assistant boys basketball. Unanimous for all.
  • ENROLLMENT: Learned enrollment is holding steady at 246 full-time equivalent students. The budget is based on 260 FTE.
  • WSSDA: Learned a grant application was successful and scholarships were obtained for two board members to attend the state School Director's Association conference in November in Bellevue.
  • AYP: Discussed corrective actions for the district's Adequate Yearly Progress status in Step 3.
  • POLICIES: Reviewed revised board policies related to meals and travel reimbursement, affirmative action and harassment and bullying. Adopted 5-year Affirmative Action Plan. Unanimous.


  • POLICIES: Will review revised board policies related to meals and travel reimbursement and affirmative action. Will consider adopting five-year Affirmative Action Plan. First reading prohibition of harassment and bullying.


  • ASB: Approved list of ASB fundraising activities through December. Unanimous.

  • FINANCIAL: Approved October payroll of $209,925; general fund warrants for $47,638, and ASB warrants for $9,006. Unanimous.


  • NEXT MEETING: The board will meet Tuesday, Nov. 22 at 7:30 p.m.
