WALLA WALLA - The DeSales Irish blasted through a non-conference volleyball matchup with Riverside Thursday, sinking the Pirates in three sets, 25-15 25-15 and 25-14.

Because the match did not count in the league standings, the Irish used it to prepare for the first round of Southeast 2B District tournament play.

"It was a great tune up match," DeSales coach Lori Blanc said. "It was our third match this week and we looked at it as an advantage, not just for conditioning, but for mental toughness as well to take us into district play next week."

Abby Larreau had 14 kills and two blocks to lead DeSales; Stephanie Ferrel had eight kills; Annie Higgins had six kills; Claire Conley had four kills; Alex Buley had 2 kills and was 9-for-9 in service with one ace; Chantel Blanc notched 29 assists and was 18-for-18 in service with an ace.

DeSales travels to Asotin Wednesday at 6 p.m. for the first round of the tournament. The Irish and Panthers are tied for second place in the SE2B. However, Asotin drew a higher number in the tie-breaking draw at the beginning of the season and thus has home-court advantage.
