Mac-Hi boys exact revenge on Ontario

MILTON-FREEWATER - The Mac-Hi boys soccer team exacted revenge on their one loss on the season in convincing fashion over Ontario here Saturday, by a score of 5-0, led by sophomore Jaime Torres - who booted in three goals himself.

"Jaime is just a sophomore," Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia said, "but he is an amazing athlete and he had a great game today.

"Other players that did really well for us was midfielders Christian Zaragoza and Juan Pablo Martinez on defense."

Previous to the match, Mac-Hi was rated number eight in the state and Ontario fifth. The Pioneers had been rated as high as second in the 4A OSAA rankings, but fell in the rankings on a loss at home to Ontario several weeks ago.

"We had a bad day in the loss to Ontario previously," Garcia said, "If we didn't want that to happen and if we wanted to win the GOL, we had to play well today.

"We played well start to finish and pressured them without giving them much space to work with."

The Pioneers play number two in state in the OSAA 3A ranking,Riverside, Tuesday afternoon in Boardman, Oregon to conclude the regular season.

When the season concludes, Mac-Hi will likely host a play-in state game Thursday afternoon at Shockman Field.

Others scoring goals in the win that took the league championship Saturday, were Christian Torres and Alex Saldana.

In the loss, Ontario took only about three shots on offense. In the win, Mac-Hi had 16 shots, most of them on target, according to Garcia.
