RICHLAND - The Blue Devils came into the Columbia Basin Big Nine District Volleyball Championship as the fourth-seed, but that didn't stop Wa-Hi from beating up on two top teams - Wenatchee and Richland - to grab the district title and a first round bye in regionals.
The Devils will play next Saturday in Mead, Wash.
"We did amazing," Wa-Hi coach Audra Cummings said, "We won the district championship. It was a great day defensively and we played fantastically. We finally put things together and played awesome."
It was Wa-Hi's first win against both Wenatchee and Richland.
The Devils beat Wenatchee 14-25, 25-21, 25-21 and 25-12. They also beat Richland in four sets, bombing Bombers 25-20, 25-22, 12-25 and 25-20.
Franny Eacker-Rude scored 35 assists through two matches to lead the Devils. Brogan Watson had 32 assists and Tianna Cummings racked up 43 digs.
Chantelle Zamora picked up 40 digs and 18 kills.
Lexie Mahan had 48 digs and spiked 13 kills.
Madeline Jacobson had 10 kills and Torri Crawford pounded down 21 kills.
Devyn Humphreys added 6 kills and Kennedy Snider had 15 digs.
The time for next Saturday's action has yet to be determined.
