YAKIMA - Kaylie Winston's hat trick paced the Walla Walla Community College women's soccer team past Yakima Valley here Saturday, 5-0.
The victory leaves the Warriors' NWAACC East Region record 13-0-0, and 17-0-1 overall, with Spokane coming to town at 1 p.m. Wednesday.
"The women sorted through some early trouble breaking down their backline, but once they figured it out the play was good and we capitalized on our opportunities," WWCC coach Chad Bodnar said.
Winston opened scoring in the 21st minute on a penalty kick.
Four minutes later, Winston took an assist from Paige Sorensen. Sorensen made a run through the Yaks midfield and put the ball across for Winston to finish the goal.
In the 36th minute, Sami Hansen's assist went to Winston for WWCC's 3-0 halftime lead.
"Kaylie played very well, as did Paige Sorensen in the midfield," Bodnar said.
In the second half, Hansen took an assist from Sorensen for a goal in the 55th minute, and then Jordan Rodriguez crossed to Peyton Moon, who put it into the corner of the goal.
Warrior goal keeper Courtney Hancock recorded the shutout.
"We will look to continue improving as we headed into our final two regular season games," Bodnar said. "We are excited to head back home with a chance to lock up the Eastern Region championship."
