ATHENA - The Weston-McEwen TigerScots scored on their first four drives and led 37-7 halfway through the second quarter against the Umatilla Vikings here Friday night.

The TigerScots' starting defense allowed just 27 Viking first-half yards and only one first down before the intermission.

"Our defense played outstanding tonight," W-M coach Kenzie Hansell said. "Give credit to our coaching staff. I feel we were prepared tonight. We put our defense in good positions and were ready for what they brought offensively."

The final score: TigerScots 43, Vikings 20.

The Vikings were able to pick up five more first downs in the second half and totaled 158 yards of offense.

The TigerScots' big-play offense put up more than 200 yards both on the ground and through the air.

Twelve different W-M players carried the ball.

"Our offensive line played great tonight," Hansell said. "They were ready to rock and roll. Both on offense and defense."

Bobby McAllister led the TigerScot rushing attack with 70 yards on the ground, including a 45-yard touchdown romp.

Elliot Salter added 57 all-purpose yards from the backfield, and Dallas Reich scrambled for 65 yards from his quarterback position.

Reich threw for more than 200 yards, two touchdowns through the air and one on the ground.

Receiving for Reich was Jared Bond, who caught five balls for 127 yards, including an 82-yard touchdown catch.

Calvin Thacker caught a 39-yard scoring strike from Reich.

The TigerScots took some chances early, converting on fourth-and-1, fourth-and-8 and fourth-and-12, in Viking territory to score.

To cap the first scoring drive, Reich went 21 yards on fourth-and-1 up the middle to score, and rolled out to run on the successful 2-point conversion.

The first W-M scoring drive went 46 yards.

The Vikings answered right back with a Brandon Williams 84-yard kickoff return for six points. The extra point made it 8-7 TigerScots with just four minutes elapsed in the first quarter.

The next W-M drive started at its own 35-yard line. Passes and runs by Salter moved the ball up the field into Viking territory. A Reich quarterback draw on fourth-and-8 took the ball to the Viking 19-yard line.

A fourth-and-12 was converted by Nick Lively, going 16 yards on the end-around.

Tyler Peterson punched the ball into the end zone from three yards out to make it 14-7 TigerScots, and a Salter 2-point conversion run followed.

The Vikings moved the ball on its next drive to about midfield before backfield pressure got to quarterback Andreas Sanguino and he threw an interception to W-M's Thacker.

The TigerScots promptly took advantage of the turnover with an 82-yard scoring strike from Reich to Bond. Bond caught the ball about 20 yards downfield and broke loose to scamper into the end zone.

A four-and-out followed by the Vikings and another TigerScot drive ensued.

Reich then connected with Thacker over the middle and into the end zone for a 39-yard bomb for six more. The 2-point conversion failed.

The Viking fumbled the first snap on their ensuing drive and it was recovered by W-M middle linebacker Peterson.

Backup running back McAllister then took the ball on a run up the right side, cut back to the middle en route to a 45-yard touchdown scamper.

Not even halfway through the second quarter it was 37-7 TigerScots, after McAllister kicked the extra point.

Umatilla turned the ball over on downs the next drive and backup quarterback Ron Terjeson led W-M to another touchdown before the half to make the score 43-7, at the intermission.

Umatilla scored twice in the second half against primarily second- and third-string W-M defenses to make the final 43-20.

"A lot of kids were playing varsity for the first time for us," Hansell said. "I suited up all of my players and got a good chance to play them all tonight. It showed how good and competitive all of our players are in the program. It was definitely a program win."

The TigerScots are 1-0 and travel to Mac-Hi at 7 p.m. Friday.
