Mac-Hi harriers win at Pendleton Ice Breaker

PENDLETON - A senior and a freshman led the way for Mac-Hi here at the Pendleton Ice Breaker crosscountry meet Friday.

Senior Lucas Simpson ran the 5,000 meter course in 18:41.95 to win the boys race by 25 seconds. Pendleton's Bill Weyekin finished second in 18:39.29.

On the girls side, freshman Josie Lonai turned a 21:42.25 over the 5,000 meters to claim first place for the Pioneers. Pendleton's Sandy Torres crossed the tape second in 22:09.74.

For Mac-Hi, Jesus Saldana and Chewy Saldona finished in a tie for fourth as both were clocked in 19:03.07. The Pioneers got two other top twenty finishes on the boys side as Juan Diaz was 13th in 21:24.46, and Ethan Taylor was 2oth in 22:17.20.

Kristi Childers was the other girls runner for the Pioneers and Childers finished seventh in 25:32.91.
