Warriors pick up soccer victories

The WWCC women's soccer team shuts out Shoreline, 6-0, while the men win 2-0.


SHORELINE, Wash. - Walla Walla Community College's women's soccer team won its third straight match to open the season with a 6-0 blanking of Shoreline here Monday.

Also Monday, the Warrior men improved to 2-1 with a 2-0 shutout of the same Dolphins.

Emily Jordan got the WWCC women rolling with a goal in the 31st minute, followed two minutes later by teammate Samantha Johnson.

Sami Hansen put the Warriors up 3-0 in the 65th minute, and then Kara Churchman took over to record a hat trick with scores in the 73rd, 78th and 85th minutes.

Hansen also picked up an assist on the first goal, Johnson assisted on Churchman's first two scores, and Shae Yuma set up Churchman's third goal.

For the Warrior men, Kyle Menchaca scored in the 30th and 55th minutes to lift WWCC to the victory.

Five yellow cards were handed out in the match.

The Warrior men continue the road trip with a 1 p.m. match today at Everett, with the women playing the Trojans at Kasch Park at 3 p.m.

The WWCC women host Lane at noon Saturday, with the men hosting South Puget Sound at 2:15 p.m. on the Warrior pitch.
