LEWISTON - Mac-Hi's boys soccer team opened its season with a 4-0 romp over Lewiston Tuesday.
The Pioneers' goals were scored by Alex Saldana and Nefpali Cazarez, with two each.
Pioneer keeper Fransisco Flores was well-defended and didn't have much work to do, said Mac-Hi coach Jose Garcia.
"We played amazing," Garcia said. "As a whole team, we defend well, we play well. I think, compared to last year's team, this team has more teamwork. We have good players who play more as a team."
Lewiston's temperatures were in the upper 90s, making for hot play, Garcia said.
"It was so hot and they played so hard in the first half," he said. "But Lewiston never gave up and they gave us a good match. I give them a lot of credit for playing that way."
Lewiston was also physical, Garcia said. Several Mac-Hi players suffered bumps and bruises, but he expects they'll be ready to play before the next match at The Dalles on Sept. 14.
Mac-Hi hosts Baker at 2 p.m. Sept. 24 in their first home show.
