Author to read from ‘Soucouyant' at Whitman


WALLA WALLA - David Chariandy, author of the novel "Soucouyant," will visit Whitman College for a book reading at 7 p.m. on Sept. 12 in Olin Hall.

He will read from both "Soucouyant" and his forthcoming novel "Brother."

"Soucouyant" was nominated for numerous awards, including the prestigious Governor General's Literary Award nomination for fiction, and the Scotiabank Giller Prize. The novel is centered on a young man's struggle to come to terms with his mother's memory loss, and her traumatic past in Trinidad and as a new immigrant to Canada.
