MISSION, Ore. - Whitman sophomore Andrew Welch fired a 1-over par 73 to capture medalist honors in a three-school golf match on Saturday at the Wildhorse Resort course.

Lewis-Clark State edged Whitman in the team scoring, however. The Warriors carded a 306 total for their top four, nipping Whitman by three stroke

Warner Pacific was third with a 316 total.

Welch finished two strokes ahead of two LCSC players, Jordan Beveridge and Drew Reinland.

Whitman senior captain John Abercrombie shot 76 and was part of a four-way tie for fourth place.

Scott Martin, a Whitman freshman tied for ninth at 79.

Junior Geoff Burks and sophomore Jonathan Standen both shot 81 to complete the Whitman team score.

Cheney Doane, a freshman, shot a round of 80, although his score didn't count in the Missionary team total because he wasn't one of Whitman's designated top five.

Nathan Fisher, another freshman, also played his first competitive round for Whitman, shooting an 83.
