POMEROY - Garfield County Fire Chief Kris Darby was appointed to another role last week when the Garfield County Public Hospital board chose him to join their ranks.

Darby fills a vacancy left last month when Roger Dumdeck resigned from Position 2. Although Dumdeck's position expires Dec. 31, 2015, Darby will have to be elected by voters in 2013 to retain the position.

Darby moved last year from Dayton to Pomeroy to take the combined job as fire chief and Emergency Mangement Services coordinator. In Dayton, he worked as an EMT and fire department deputy chief.

While in Dayton, Darby served for a time on the City Council.

Darby is the second appointee to the board in two months. In June, the board appointed retired nurse Roy Hoffman to fill the Position 4 seat left vacant when Pat Richardson resigned. Hoffman and local mechanic Steve Lytle are on the ballot for Position 4 in the November general election.

Position 3 is open but no one filed to run. Incumbent Jim Maves will continue to serve until he resigns or a successor is elected to a six-year term.

Other board members are Jenness Evanson, and Vonni Mulrony.
