Mark your calendars for games, activities and an afternoon of good times during Family Fun Day Sept. 18. The annual kick off to the United Way campaign, the event will be at the YMCA, 340 S. Park St.

Free family-oriented activities will be hosted by United Way and partner agencies. Activities take place from 1-4 p.m. on the grounds and indoors at the YMCA.

There will be an open swim, rock climbing, Frisbee toss, softball throw, sack races, three-legged races, balloon toss, arts and crafts projects and preschooler activities. All families are invited to join in the fun and enjoy the afternoon, McDevitt said. For more information, call the United Way office at 509-529-1183.


Walla Wallan David Brauhn is among the Alumni Fellows that Dickinson State University Alumni Association will honor with an awards banquet on Oct. 6 at the Dickinson Elks Lodge.

DSU Alumni Association gives these awards in collaboration with the DSU academic deans and chairs and the president's office to recognize alumni members who have distinguished themselves in their careers.

The Alumni Fellows program brings successful alumni to campus to meet with the students and faculty and share their expertise in classroom settings and at informal settings across the campus.

David, who graduated in 1999 from the university in Dickinson, N.D., was an editor at the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin for eight years. On Aug. 29 he became editor/associate director of communications at Whitman College. His responsibilities include the Whitman Magazine, several periodicals/newsletters and the Undergraduate Conference program as well as managing the design and photography staff.


Walla Walla Choral Society will begin rehearsals tonight for its Oct. 23 concert. The performance, dubbed Bon Voyage!, is a musical tour of folk songs from around the globe. Rehearsals are Mondays at 7 p.m. All vocal parts and skill levels are encouraged and auditions are not held. The choir meets on the Walla Walla University campus in the choir room at the Fine Arts Center, corner of Fourth Street and College Avenue. Dues are $25 per concert or $15 for students.
