WALLA WALLA -- The Walla Walla School District is among 62 in the state to receive urgent repair grants from the state.
Walla Walla will receive $100,000 to replace a boiler at Pioneer Middle School.
The grants total nearly $5 million in needed repairs to schools throughout the state. The awards were announced by the Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction on Monday. The Urgent Repair Grant program was created and funded by the Legislature.
The grant goes specifically to nonrecurring costs associated with needed school facility repairs and renovations that are related to unforseen health and safety needs. Grants are administered by OSPI.
The state education agency received 108 school district applications, and selected the top 73 projects, representing 62 districts, after evaluating and prioritizing requests.
