Irish improve to 2-0 in Southeast 2B District play with win over Liberty Christian

WALLA WALLA - DeSales bumped its Southeast 2B District volleyball record to 2-0 Tuesday night in the Irish gym with a 25-20, 25-16, 25-18 victory over visiting Liberty Christian.

Abby Larreau led the Walla Wallans in kills with seven, and she also contributed one block. Annie Higgins finished with five kills, Stephanie Ferrell three kills and Alex Buley two kills.

Chantel Blanc put up 21 assists for DeSales. The Irish also served 95 percent on the night.

"We are trying to improve every game by eliminating our unforced errors," DeSales coach Lori Blanc said. "I thought our hitters did a great job of seeing the defense and finding the holes.

"Overall, I thought we played a good game," Blanc said.

Danielle Nelson and Tasha Tolbert were credited with 32 and 27 digs, respectively, for the Patriots. Sarah Croskrey led the visitors with nine assists, Sydney Higgins chalked up four kills and Deborah Croskrey was 11-for-11 from the service line.

Weston-McEwen travels to Athena Thursday for a pair of non-league matches. The Irish play Imbler at about 5:30 p.m. and then meet Weston-McEwen, Oregon's defending Class 2A state champion, at about 7 p.m.

The host TigerScots are matched against Imbler in the day's first match at 4 p.m.
