POMEROY - Pomeroy won its delayed season-opening volleyball match against Southeast 1B foe Rosalia here Tuesday, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 25-5.
The Pirates were slated to open play at the Clarkston Jamboree last week, but were without its seniors, who were on a field trip, and pushed the opener to Tuesday.
"We played well enough to win," Pomeroy coach Bruce Crossfield said. "Like everybody early in the season, we have lots of room for improvement."
McKenzie Monahan had 13 kills for the Pirates, Haylee Koller recorded 29 assists and seven digs, Delaney Monahan had nine kills, Deanna Melvoen was 29-of-29 serving (including a stretch of 18-straight in the fourth set), McKenzie Uto was 22-of-23 serving and Kayla Morgan had six digs.
"I was pleased with our performance, given the circumstances," Crossfield said. "It was a hot gym, and I thought we perserved well."
