PRESCOTT - Lino Diaz scored a pair of goals and Oscar Gonzalez was credited with two assists here Tuesday as Waitsburg-Prescott launched its soccer season with a 3-0 victory over Moses Lake Christian.
Diaz tallied the only goal of the first half off an assist from Francisco Gonzalez and then doubled W-P's lead with a second goal that was assisted by Oscar Gonzalez.
Ernesto Valdovinos rounded out the day's scoring with a second-half goal off Oscar Gonzalez's second assist.
Pedro Mendoza was credited with the shutout in goal for W-P and made five saves, according to coach Aaron Grimm.
"It took us a little while to get started, but we pretty much dominated the game in our offensive half of the field," Grimm said. "We lost quite a few kids off of last year's team."
Last year, in the school's first year of soccer, Waitsburg-Prescott logged an 18-1 record and reached the state quarterfinals.
W-P travels to Spokane on Saturday to face St. George's. The match is slated to begin at 2 p.m.
