Montana Evelyn Edgar died in her sleep Tuesday afternoon at her residence in Walla Walla of natural causes. She was born Aug. 3, 1921, in Columbia Falls, Flathead County, Mont., the 1st of 3 children born to LeRoy Edwin and Ida Celestia (Harris) Thompson. Her family were the earliest of pioneers into the Gallatin Valley of what became Montana circa 1865.
She graduated from Flathead High School in Kalispell, Mont., and moved to Seattle at the onset of WW II. She married her high school sweetheart George Merton Edgar in 1942 in West Seattle.
George preceded her in death by 30 years. She is survived by her children, Karen Palmer and her husband Dave, Diana Megenity, Colleen Reser and her husband Phil, David Edgar and his wife Frankie, Kelly Edgar and his wife Mika, Christine McCarthy, Michael Edgar and his wife Mary Lee, Bonnie Stroemel and her husband Matt, and Darcy Andrews and her husband Mike; plus 22 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her sister, Yyvonne Planque of Loomis, Wash.; and brother, Lewis LeRoy Thompson of White Bird, Ida.
She was a lifelong member of the Mormon church as were her mother's forebearers. She was deeply loved by her children and grandchildren and will be missed by many. Her greatest joys were sharing time with those close to her. She was loving, attentive and devoted.
A memorial service will be held Saturday morning, 11 a.m. Sept. 17,2011, at Shaw Sons Funeral Directors, 201 N. 2nd Street, Yakima. Viewing was held Wednesday afternoon with cremation following.
