ATHENA - Weston-McEwen's volleyball team hosted DeSales and Imbler for non-league matches Thursday night, with the defending Oregon Class 2A state champion TigerScot handing Imbler a 25-12, 26-24, 26-24 defeat before taking care of the Irish, 25-7, 25-8, 25-12.
"I was really pleased with how we played together as a team," W-M coach Shawn White said. "We're still putting people through different rotations and they're working well together. As the day went on, we were playing with fewer and fewer errors.
"We also played aggressively," he said. "We really showed some great improvement this week. It's so important to improve each week. I was tickled with our improvement. It was a good night of volleyball."
Morgan Entze had a big night for the TigerScots, recording 15 digs, 46 assists, seven kills, five blocks and seven aces in the two matches.
"She had a real nice day," White said.
Also for W-M, Molly von Borstel tallied 23 digs and 17 kills; Taylor Rudolph 11 digs and eight kills; Katy West 14 kills and six blocks; Marlene Bodmer six kills and six blocks; Jaymie Zimmerman two kills, four blocks, eight aces; Melanie Sederberg two kills and three blocks; McKayla Carlin 29 digs; McKenzie Fuhrman nine digs and six aces; and Dani Dearing eight digs and two kills.
DeSales managed to break even on the day by defeating Imbler 25-16, 25-17, 25-23 before taking on Weston-McEwen. The split left the Irish with a 3-1 record overall.
Annie Higgins had eight kills and was 11-for-11 serving in the Imbler match while Abby Larreau collected six kills and went 9-for-9 from the service line. Ashton Montgomery and Claire Conley added four kills each for the Irish and Jade Donnelly had 22 assists.
In the loss to W-M, Larreau led with seven kills, Higgins added five kills and Donnelly chipped in with 12 assists.
DeSales returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Asotin for a Southeast 2B District match.
The TigerScots, meanwhile, now 6-3 overall, host their annual Weston-McEwen Invitational here Saturday.
Pool A play at the W-M gym begins at 8 a.m. with Waitsburg-Prescott vs. Pilot Rock, followed by W-M vs. Helix at approximately 9 a.m.; W-P vs. Helix at 9:50 a.m.; W-M vs. Pilot Rock at 10:40 a.m.; Pilot Rock vs. Helix at 11:30 a.m.; and W-M vs. W-P at 12:20 p.m.
Pool B play at Weston Middle School's gym begins at 8 a.m. with Enterprise vs. Dayton, followed by Heppner vs. Dayton at 9 a.m.; Enterprise vs. Dayton at 9:50 a.m.; Heppner vs. Elgin at 10:40 a.m.; Elgin vs. Dayton at 11:30 a.m.; and Heppner vs. Enterprise at 12:20 p.m.
