ATHENA - Dayton's volleyball team finished second in pool play at Weston-McEwen's tournament Saturday, but lost to the host TigerScots in the battle to play for the championship.
Dayton opened pool play with a 22-25, 25-21 victory over Heppner, with the Bulldogs winning with a one-point better differential.
In the next match, Dayton downed Enterprise 25-18, 25-18, before falling to Elgin, 25-18, 25-23.
In the first game of bracket play, the Bulldogs beat Pilot Rock 25-22, 25-23, before losing to W-M 25-14, 26-24 to end their tournament.
"Most of the games were close," Dayton coach Shannon Turner said. "The girls got alot of playing time. It was a good experience."
Dayton's Nicole Lambert had 70 digs, 13 kills and nine aces during the tournament.
Darci Hall recorded 36 assists; McKayla Bickelhaupt had 34 kills, 41 digs and five aces; Jessica Tate tallied 40 digs; Courtney Mings had nine kills and 34 digs; Chelsea Wooldridge 28 assists and five aces; and Shelby Smith 24 kills and five blocks.
"It's good early in the season to get court time," Turner said. "It was fun."
Dayton hosts Liberty Christian at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
