COOS BAY, Ore. - Walla Walla Community College's men's soccer team ventured into the Beaver State this weekend and picked up two victories against NWAACC South Region opponents.
The Warriors blanked Southwestern Oregon, 5-0, here Saturday after taking care of Chemeketa, 3-1, on Friday.
The men are now 3-0 in league and 6-1 overall.
Erik Vaught broke a scoreless tie in the 29th minute of Saturday's match. His goal was the only one of the first half.
Kyle Menchaca doubled Walla Walla's lead in the 58th minute. Kentaro Bodzewski, Jonathan Rodriguez, and Luis Alcala followed with goals in minutes 66, 73, and 88, respectively.
Against Chemeketa, Menchaca scored in the opening minute, only to have the home team's Pete Gonzalez equalize in the 11th minute.
Mikey Luhrs put the Warriors back in front, thanks to an Oscar Martinez assist, in the 25th minute.
Perry McNamar gave WWCC some insurance with a goal in minute 75.
"The men had a good result on the road against a tough opponent," Walla Walla coach Chad Bodnar said.
Both matches were marred by rough play. A combined seven yellow cards were assessed to the two teams on Saturday and eight were handed out on Friday. Walla Walla also received three red cards during the Chemeketa contest.
The Warriors host Pierce next Friday and Clark on Saturday. Friday's match starts at 4 p.m. and Saturday's tilt commences at 2 p.m.
