Reno man sentenced in fatal crash in Garfield County

POMEROY -- A 25-year-old Reno man plead guilty last week in a plea agreement to vehicular homicide and vehicular assault in Garfield County Superior Court.

James Patrick Monsey, formerly of Liberty Lake, was sentenced to a standard range of 26 months in prison plus 18 months probation.

The case stemmed from the death May 20, 2009 of Tanya Guseva, 22, of Mulkiteo, and injury of Allison Beach, 22, of Woodinville in a one-car rollover on the Almota Ferry Road at Ilia Landing.

At the time of the accident, Guseva had recently graduated from Washington State University, and Monsey and Beach were students at the school.

Investigation revealed Monsey, the driver, had a blood alcohol level of 0.18, more than twice the legal limit of .08.

Among a number of people who spoke at the sentencing Sept. 14 was Guseva's mother. Judge William Acey also considered a number of written victim impact statements submitted to the court prior to the sentencing, according to a press release from Garfield County Prosecutor Matt Newberg.
