ASOTIN - The DeSales Irish faced their first real test Tuesday, losing against the Panthers of Asotin in four games in the Southeast 2B volleyball matchup.

The Irish lost game one 25-19 and were pounded 25-11 in game two before coming back to put up a 25-15 victory to stay in the match.

"We played a little flat in the beginning and Asotin came out ready," DeSales coach Lori Blanc said. "The third game was a turn-around point for us and we came out better."

The Irish could not sustain their momentum, however, and dropped the last game in a 25-20 match.

"The fourth game could have gone either way," Blanc said. "They are the best team we have played so far."

The loss was the first conference loss for the Irish and puts them at 2-1 in league play.

Leading the way for the Irish in the front court was senior outside-hitter Stephanie Ferrel, with nine kills. The rest of the offense was spread around as Abby Larreau had seven kills, Annie Higgins had five and Claire Conley had four.

Chantel Blanc set the offense up with 18 assists and juniors Jade Donnely and Ashton Montgomery provided consistent service for the Irish, hitting 8-of-8 and 9-of-9, respectively.

DeSales heads north to take on conference-mate Waitsburg-Prescott at home Thursday at 7 p.m.
