WALLA WALLA -- Volunteers can join forces with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers on Saturday to help turn a new trail into a tree-lined path.

As part of National Public Lands Day, people can work with park rangers at Mill Creek Dam and Bennington Lake to plant trees along a new trail established in June as part of a National Trails Day volunteer event.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon. Individuals and groups are welcome. Volunteers should dress for the weather, bring gloves and a water bottle and wear sturdy work shoes.

People can register for the event by calling 527-7165 or by visiting Mill Creek Dam's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/millcreekdam.

Public Lands Day is the nation's largest, single-day volunteer event to benefit public lands. Officially the last Saturday of September, organizers anticipate more than 100,000 Americans of all ages will participate to help restore the beauty and vitality of public lands.
