Delpha Inez (Debbie) Daggett, a 49-year resident of Springfield, Ore., died Sept. 21, 2011. She died of small cell lung cancer. She was born Oct. 14, 1936, at home in Enterprise, Ore., to Byron and Lois (McCormack) Daggett. She graduated from Gresham High School. Delpha was a proponent for education. She acquired her undergraduate degree from Oregon State and she was a proud Beaver fan. Delpha graduated from the University of Oregon with her master's degree in 1966. She was a dedicated, loyal "Duck."
Delpha taught at Thurston High School and was a founding teacher at Lane Community College in Springfield. Delpha had a long and distinguished career as a physical education professor and coach at Lane Community College.
Delpha was a strong supporter for local businesses and events in Lane County. She enjoyed gardening fishing, and her beloved cat Tweetie Pie.
Delpha is survived by her brother, Bill Daggett and wife Sandi of Eagle, Idaho; sister-in-law, Peggy Simpson and husband Alvin Guy of Walla Walla; nieces, Christina Jacobs and husband Michael and Annaliese Krzyzanek and husband Jerry of Walla Walla; nephews, Shaun Daggett of Woodland Park, Colo., Corbett Wilson of Lancaster, Calif.; great-nephews, Joel Jacobs, Alexander Krzyzanek and Jared Daggett; great nieces, Julia Jacobs, Katherine Krzyzanek, Justine Daggett, Jessica Daggett and Jenna Daggett; and numerous relatives in Wallowa County. She was preceded in death by Byron and Lois Daggett.
Viewing will be at Buell Funeral Chapel, 320 N. Sixth St., Springfield, on Sept. 24, at noon. Funeral at 2:30 p.m., reception at the Pump at 3:30 p.m. Interment will be in Enterprise, Ore. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the local American Cancer Society and local hospice.
