WAITSBURG - Waitsburg-Prescott fought hard, but DeSales was victorious in a five-game volleyball match between the Southeast 2B rivals Thursday.
W-P won the opener 25-18, but fell 25-15 and 25-16 in games two and three. A 25-23 barn-burner in Waitsburg-Prescott's favor forced a fifth game, but the Irish prevailed 15-10 in the tie-breaker.
"We seem to be slow starters, so when you lose the first game its an uphill battle the rest of the way," DeSales coach Lori Blanc said. "(Game four) could have gone either way, it was pretty much a trade off the whole way - we were just lucky there was a fifth game to break the tie."
After losing two games in a row, Waitsburg-Prescott gave all it had to make the comeback in game four.
"They were tough, both teams played hard," W-P coach Angie Potts said. "We had some consistency issues in the three games we lost, but the girls continued to fight.
"They (W-P) came back and played well in the fourth set," Potts said. "We'll keep working on getting our passing to where it needs to be and making sure our girls are reading what the hitters are doing."
Ronnie Hulce had 18 kills in the loss, along with 19 digs and 3 blocks. Kayla Huxoll led the way with 28 assists and 12 digs. Krystal Harris contributed six kills, 11 digs and 3 blocks. Dionna Baker and Rhiannon Chapman tied with five kills and six digs each. Jennifer Nichols had 14 digs.
Waitsburg-Prescott travels to Tri-Cities Prep Tuesday at 6 p.m. DeSales hosts Dayton at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
