POMEROY - The Pomeroy Pirates fell in four hotly contested Southeast 1B games to Tekoa-Oakesdale Thursday.
The Pirates lost game one 26-24 after giving up a hefty lead.
"It just as easily could have gone the other way," Pomeroy coach Bruce Crossfield said. "We were ahead 24-18 in the first set and we couldn't get that last point."
In game two, the Pirates came back to win, this time coming back from a 24-20 deficit to take the game 26-24.
Pomeroy gave up game three 25-13 and lost the fourth by 25-23.
"We played pretty well considering they're favorite to be one of the top three in the state," Crossfield said.
Delany Monahan had 11 kills and 10 blocks to lead the way for the Pirates. Samantha Smith had 12 digs, while McKenzie Uto added four aces to 11 digs.
Haylee Koller had 19 assists.
The Pirates will host the Border Battle, a tournament consisting of five teams from Washington and five from Idaho, Saturday in Clarkston. Volleyball fans would do well to make the trip, each team will play three-game matches with every team from the opposing state, for a total of 15 games per team.
