PASCO - Waitsburg-Prescott took down rebuilding Tri-Cities Prep in four sets Tuesday, beating the Jaguars 25-10 in set one before winning 25-18 in set two, and then losing set three, 21-25, after replacing many of the starters with backups.
W-P refocused and put the Jaguars down 25-16 in the fourth set.
"It was nice because I got to play everybody," coach Angie Potts said. "Obviously in the third set we made a little too many adjustments and we didn't take them seriously enough."
After winning so convincingly in the first set, Potts said the remaining sets were closer partially because the players relaxed and partially because she subbed in some younger players.
"In game two we kind of let up a little bit, but halfway through game one and then game two and three we were using a lot of different people," Potts said. "It was one of those nights where we were confident we were going to win so we played a lot of different players."
Potts said she could have put her starters back in to try and win the third set point, but she felt it was important to get her younger players the experience.
Ronnie Hulce was key for W-P's offense. She led the way with 16 kills along with 14 digs and four blocks. Kayla Huxoll was the primary passer, scoring 19 assists to go along with 15 digs and two blocks for the night.
Krystal Harris had five kills, 11 blocks digs and two blocks. Dionna Baker led from the service stripe with seven aces along with her four kills on the night.
Amanda Cook with four kills and 11 digs and Sarah Mascal with three kills and eight digs rounded out the top contributors.
Waitsburg-Prescott travels to Richland to take on Liberty Christian Thursday.
