WALLA WALLA - Local author Patrick Carman is mixing the release of his latest book with a chance to support local schools.

Carman's new book, "Floors," builds on his track record of imaginative, suspenseful books for young readers. The story focuses on the Whippet Hotel, a mysterious, wacky place filled with secrets - and ducks.

Carman will be at Book and Game Company, at First Avenue and Main Street downtown, to sign books Friday starting at 6 p.m. He will also be signing copies of "3:15," another new release that includes a written story along with online videos.

Carman is giving local students who buy a copy of "Floors" the chance to raise book donations for their school libraries. With every copy of "Floors" sold at Book and Game between now and Oct. 15, students can earn a $1 worth of books from the store that will be donated to their school library. So 20 students from the same school who each buy "Floors" would get $20 worth of books for their library. Community members who buy a copy of the book may also request the dollar match go to a school library of their choice.

The school with the most books purchased will win at least $500 worth of books for their library from Book and Game. The donation is covered by Carman's Walla Walla Kids Read foundation.
