WALLA WALLA -- "The Birthday Party," a classic of the modern stage by playwright Harold Pinter, will open Wednesday, with the curtain at 8 p.m.
The play will be performed in the Freimann Studio Theatre at Whitman College, 345 Boyer Ave.
In the play, Stanley Webber is visited in his boarding-house by two strangers. An innocent-seeming birthday party for Stanley turns into a nightmare.
The play, which offers a a spine-chilling comic riff on free-floating menace, was first performed in 1958 and is now considered a modern classic.
Other performances are April 12-14 at 8 p.m. and two matinees, April 14 and 15 at 2 p.m.
The cost of a ticket is $12 for most adults except $8 for seniors and students.
