COLLEGE PLACE -- Walla Walla University will host the North Pacific Regional Robotics Challenge on Sunday. This year, 96 team members, 20 coaches, and 21 sponsors will take part. The competition begins 11 a.m. at the Alumni Gymnasium. Doors open at 8 a.m. for team set-up. The public is invited to watch the free event.
This year's competition theme is "Food Factor: Keeping Food Safe." Students in grades 1-4 make up the Junior First Lego League and use Lego blocks to demonstrate an idea. Teams also showcase their project on a poster.
The First Lego League is for students in grades 5-8, who are presented with a greater challenge. Teams, which can have from three to 10 students, must create an autonomous robot that can complete a specific challenge or task. Their project involves researching, analyzing and presenting a solution to that challenge.
