Charles "Randy" Ellis, 62, formerly of Walla Walla, died Sunday, April 1, 2012, in Hawaii with his son by his side after a 10-month battle with pancreatic cancer.
Randy was born to Chester and Alice Ellis on July 24, 1949. He was raised in Wilton, Iowa, with his four brothers. He began his career at the Wilton Phone Co. at the age of 17. In 1978 he purchased a ranch in Montreal, Mo. In 1985 he became the project manager of a large-scale fiber optic project in California. After completing that project "on time and under budget" he became the general manager of the phone company in Cochrane, Wis. Later in life, he worked as the maintenance supervisor for Odd Fellows Retirement Home in Walla Walla. He also worked as a viticulturist in Milton-Freewater.
He is survived by his daughter, Miranda; his son, Maj. Jeremiah Ellis; and one brother, Ed Ellis. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, John; and his brother, Joe.
His ashes will be scattered into the Pacific Ocean. No formal service is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice, 1067 Isaacs Ave., Walla Walla, WA, 99362, where Randy volunteered for many years.
