Oct. 27, 1929 - April 2, 2012
Marie H. Turnbow, 82, passed away at home surrounded by family on April 2, 2012. Marie was born on Oct. 27, 1929, in Gleichen, Alberta, Canada, to Melvin and Helen (Sache) Short. In 1944 the family moved to Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, where Marie attended high school.
Following graduation, she worked in a local dry cleaning establishment but before too long, her adventuresome nature took her to Vancouver, B.C., for work. In Vancouver, she met Tom, the handsome sailor from Walla Walla, who became the love of her life. They married in 1952 in Bellingham, while Tom was stationed on Whidbey Island. In 1954 they moved to Walla Walla, where they raised two daughters.
Marie is survived by her husband, Tom at the home; daughters, Sherry Turnbow-Ruzicka (Gerry) and Sandy Turnbow (David Hair) both of Walla Walla; sisters, Mona (Vern) Bradwell, Donna Logan and brother, Jack (Audrey) Short, all of Chilliwack, B.C., Canada; granddaughters, Brooke Turnbow of Walla Walla and Courtney (Pete) Liligard of Hermiston; great-grandson, Colt Liligard of Hermiston; and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents, Melvin and Helen Short.
All of her Canadian family have wonderful memories of their many visits with Marie and her family in Walla Walla, waterskiing, horseback riding and picnics at the river. Among other things, Marie loved the outdoors, fishing, camping and yearly trips mushroom hunting with family and friends.
At her request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Walla Walla Community Hospice or the Blue Mountain Humane Society through the Herring Groseclose Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA. Family and friends are invited to sign the online guestbook at www.herringgroseclose.com.
