Walla Walla American Legion tryouts set for April 15


WALLA WALLA - Tryouts for Walla Walla's three American Legion baseball teams have been scheduled for Sunday, April 15, at the Walla Walla Community College baseball complex on Tausick Way.

The tryouts will run from 1 to 3 p.m. and will be the one and only tryout session for the Walla Walla Bears, Walla Walla Bruins and Walla Walla Griz. Anyone who is unable to attend but is interested in playing American Legion baseball this summer should call Legion president Terry Bergevin at 529-5472 or Stacy Bergevin at 522-3733.

American Legion baseball is for players 15-to-19 years of age, and player from throughout the Walla Walla Valley, including the communities of Touchet, Prescott, Waitsburg, Dayton and College Place, are eligible.

Each of the teams will play 40-plus games during the course of the season, which begins in late May and runs through the middle of July.

Brian Kitamura, a former Whitman College baseball player, returns as the Bears head coach. Jason Parsons will again coach the Bruins and Ryan Van Dyke coaches the Griz.
