TVCC ends WWCC winning streak at 14

Dara Kosanke wins three games in the circle as the Warriors win three of four in the weekend road trip.

ONTARIO, Ore. - Walla Walla Community College pushed its winning streak to 14 with a 4-3 win in Saturday's opener against Treasure Valley, but dropped the nightcap in a NWAACC east region softball doubleheader.

The No. 1-ranked Warriors saw their win streak come to a halt in a disastrous seven-run third inning.

The Chuckars added three more in the fourth and posted a 10-1 win to split the twin bill.

Singles by WWCC's Kelsey Locke and Jill McDaniels set the stage for Katie Martell in the first inning of the opener. The Kamiakin High School grad didn't disappoint, as she bombed a three-run home run to stake Dara Kosanke to a 3-0 lead.

That was all Kosanke needed as she finished her work in the circle with an eight strikeout complete game effort as WWCC held on for the 4-3 win.

Doubles from Jarica Martarano and Cassie Wood sparked the seven-run third for the Chuckars in the nightcap. The Warriors committed three errors in the inning and never recovered.

Brandy Knowles, Locke, and Mercedes Pearson had the only hits for the Warriors as the Warriors saw their 14 game win streak end and had their East Region lead reduced to one game over Wenatchee Valley.

The Warriors opened the weekend road trip with a sweep of Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton Friday.

The Warriors got two homeruns from Kosanke and one from McDaniels to highlight the 13-0 opening game win.

Sami Verity blasted a three-run homer for the Warriors to spark a four-run WWCC fifth and Kosanke survived a two-run seventh inning Timberwolf rally as the Warriors completed the sweep with a 6-4 win in game two.

On the weekend, Kosanke picked up three wins in the circle as the Warriors improved to 19-3 overall and 11-1 in the East.

WWCC returns home to host Columbia Basin Tuesday for an East Region twin bill beginning at 4 p.m.
